The dry season, from April to November, is ideal for exploring Madagascar. Each region reveals its charms at different times: the Tsingy de Bemaraha are only open from the end of May, and the coastal track between Morondava and Tuléar holds surprises depending on the season.

Day 1 :

Arrival in Tana

Arrival at Ivato International airport from your international flight. Welcome and transfer to your hotel.

Day 2 :

Tana – Antsirabe

Early departure to Antsirabe (170km/5h). Beautiful city of the highlands of Madagascar, Antsirabe is the result of mixed cultures that built the city for two centuries. The city reflects the warmth of its people and the authenticity of its traditions still alive in the surrounding countryside. Famed for its “pousse pousse”, gemstones and handicrafts, the wide tree-lined avenues invite you to discover its workshops where people work on transforming natural materials like zebu horn (for cutlery) or wheat straw (for hats).

Day 3 :

Journey to the Thermal town of Ranomafana

Drive to Ranomafana (230 Km / 6h30), which means “warm waters”, known for its hot springs. Stop on the way in Ambositra to visit handicrafts markets. Ambositra is a small town known for its Zafimaniry wood carvings and handicraft. The Zafimaniry people are known for the typical wooden architecture of their houses and fine ancestral wood carving art. Their culture and lands are classified UNESCO World Heritage. Arrival in Ranomafana in the evening, lodging at your hotel.

Day 4 :

Ranomafana National Park

This morning will be dedicated to visiting the natural reserve of Ranomafana. We recommend waking up early for the morning walk in Ranomafana Park, as it is the best time for animal observation. Ranomafana National Park is full of originality and variety. Botany, ornithology, herpetology, cultures are fascinating attractions which captivate you in this tropical rainforest. Flora and fauna are among the most varied while being unique. In the afternoon, visit the village with its hot spring and night walk inside the NP to spot nocturnal lemurs and frogs and if lucky, fossas, the only endemic carnivorous species of Madagascar.

Day 5 :

On the road to Manakara

After breakfast, drive towards Manakara, a charming coastal town on the Indian Ocean. The road offers beautiful scenery of dense rainforests, tea plantations, and small Betsileo and Tanala villages. On arrival, enjoy a walk along the seaside or explore the calm atmosphere of the town. Manakara is also the starting point of the famous Pangalanes Canal, a unique waterway system that runs parallel to the coast. Lodging at the hotel.

Day 6 :

Departure for Farafangana (110 km)

Departure toward Farafangana, following the eastern coastline. The route is lined with coconut trees, lush vegetation, and small fishing. Stop along the way to meet local people and discover their traditional way of life. Arrival in Farafangana by late afternoon.

Day 7 :

Farafangana – Vangaindrano – Sandravinany

Early morning departure from Farafangana towards Sandravinany, with a stop in Vangaindrano. The road follows the wild southeastern coast, passing through forests, rice fields, and small coastal villages, with a few local ferry crossings along the way. After Vangaindrano, the track becomes a bit narrower and scenic, offering charming coastal views. The route is scented with banana, coffee, and vanilla plantations, reflecting the rich agricultural heritage of Madagascar’s east coast. Arrival in Sandravinany in the late afternoon, a peaceful village between lagoon and ocean. Perfect for relaxing after a day of discovery.

Day 8 :

Sandravinany

Today provides the chance to fully enjoy the serene beauty of Sandravinany. Explore the lagoon by boat, go snorkeling, visit nearby villages, or simply relax on the beach. This quiet coastal village blends nature, tranquility, and local charm, offering a perfect setting to unwind.

Day 9 :

Sandravinany – Fort Dauphin

Drive south through changing landscapes, from tropical forests to drier areas. Along the way, spot unique endemic plants and see the transition from Madagascar’s humid east to the dry south. Arrive in Fort Dauphin (Tolagnaro), a coastal town set between mountains, ocean, and forest.

Day 10 :

Fort Dauphin – Relaxation Day

A full day to relax and enjoy the beaches of Fort Dauphin, also known as the “Coast of Contrasts.” You can explore the town, visit the Nahampoana Reserve to see lemurs and endemic plants, or simply unwind by the sea.

Day 11 :

Fort Dauphin – Berenty Reserve

Drive to Berenty Reserve, a private 260-hectare property in the heart of Madagascar’s spiny forest. Along the way, enjoy a scenic drive through the southern landscapes before arriving at the reserve.

Day 12 :

Berenty reserve

Explore Berenty Reserve, which offers a chance to experience the magic of the forest. The property includes a sisal factory and an anthropological museum, but the main attraction is the lemurs. Many are accustomed to humans, providing excellent opportunities for close-up photography. Expect to see brown lemurs and ring-tailed lemurs, and one of the highlights is watching the graceful white Verreaux’s sifakas “dance” across clearings with their characteristic leaps on hind legs. Time at Berenty Reserve promises unforgettable memories.

Berenty – Fort-Dauphin – Flight to Tana

Drive back to Fort-dauphin (2h30), then fly back to Antananarivo with Madagascar airlines regular flight. Meet and transfer to your hotel.

Depending on your flight schedule, you may have time for a short city tour or a visit to the local handicraft markets for last-minute souvenirs. Later, transfer to Ivato International Airport for your flight back home.
